meditation taichi moxibustion massage customer review

"I struggled for years with insomnia and painful period pain, sometimes so bad I ended up in A&E. I had Catherine's massage and mud moxibustion a few days before my period and for the first time I didn't have to take paracetamol to ease my cramps!"

What is Mud Moxibustion?

Mud moxibustion is a gentle, heat-based therapy that combines the warming power of moxa (mugwort) with a mineral-rich herbal mud blend. The mud is infused with traditional Chinese herbs, gently heated, and applied to specific areas or acupuncture points. Acting as a natural heat reservoir, it releases deep, sustained warmth that improves circulation, relaxes muscles, and dispels internal cold or stagnation—all without smoke, burning, or open flame.

What to expect

Skilled practitioners apply warmed medicinal mud to specific points on the body, allowing the heat and minerals to penetrate. This process stimulates circulation, eases muscle stiffness, and promotes overall well-being.

  • Preparation. A bespoke herbal mud is warmed to a comfortable temperature.

  • Application. A layer of warm mud is applied to the target area (lower back, abdomen, knee, etc.) and left for 15-30 minutes.

  • Sensation. You will feel a deep, pleasant warmth. It should never burn. Treated areas may look pink or feel warm for hours afterwards. Many clients report immediate relaxation and loosened tension.
